Question of The Day....

A fellow divorcee posed this question to me a couple of weeks ago and it has stayed with me so I am curious to know how others feel about this.

After a divorce, why is our marital status divorced rather than single? I mean aren't we now considered single?  Why are we being singled out (pardon the pun) as divorced? What box do we fit in?

I know, I know that was more than one question, but hey those questions perplex me and I need to know....

  1. Well, I've actually never been married. But from my viewpoint (as a single woman). I think I'd rather someone tell me that they are divorced verses using "single". As I personally have used dating sites in the past, I think I am more annoyed when someone displays a status of single and not divorced. In my opinion , it just makes it known sooner rather than later or never for some! I think we all get labeled whether it's single, separated, divorced, widower, etc. I mean you are what you are.

p.s. glad to see you are still writing.

  2. I asked the same thing about being Widowed. Why am I a widow and not just single?
